DIY Infant Headband

Here at Viva, we like to celebrate any type of occasion--big or small.  Until three weeks ago, I did not realize how something so small could have such a big effect on me.  My sister gave birth to her first baby girl, Cali Marie!  She is so tiny and beautiful, and makes me want to spend all of my money buying her every pretty outfit I come across in a store.  After the first two weeks of spending, my wallet was growing smaller as her wardrobe was getting larger.  I decided I needed to find a more budget-friendly way to spoil my precious niece.  This gave me the idea to make her headbands to match all of her outfits.  It was so easy, I am already working on my 5th headband today!  I decided to share this simple DIY with you all.  Hope you enjoy!

Here are all the supplies you will need:
Felt
Elastic (any color)
Flower (or other embellishment of your choice)
Glue gun
Scissors

Step 1:  Cut the elastic into a size that will fit the infants head.  Since Cali is a newborn, I cut a little over 13 inches.

Step 2:  Cut a piece of felt that is large enough to cover the majority of the back of the flower or embellishment.

Step 3:  Glue the elastic ends to the back of the flower or embellishment.

Step 4:  Glue the felt to the back of the flower or embellishment where you just glued the elastic.

TA DA!!!!  A cute headband that my niece will look adorable in without costing me money!

Taking Something Ordinary and Making it Extrodinary!

If you have a passion for wine, just remember to save the bottles because there are so many ways to incorporate wine bottles into your event!  For Instance, you can reuse an old wine bottle by painting them different colors, or tying some ribbon around and turning them into the perfect vase for an flower arrangement.  It definitely gives a fresh homemade crafty touch to any event.

One could even take a wine bottle and print out their own labels and make them the table numbers for the wedding!

Also, another great way to incorporate wine bottles into the event is by designing your own wine label!  This is a great idea to get both the bride and groom involved. It acts as a great personalized wedding favor as well!

Once you have finalized your own creative wedding label, turn the wine bottles into your own guest book and have your guests sign the bottles! It is a great idea for a wonderful keepsake.

Lotus Survival Foundation Event

We, Viva L'Event, had the pleasure of planning and executing the design and flow of the "Fun-raising under the Stars!" event for the Lotus Survival Foundation. It was hosted at Solas in downtown Raleigh on October 22, 2011.

The "Lotus Survival Foundation" provides awareness, education and resources to understand individuals before, during and after breast cancer. The Lotus Survival Foundation has a unique mentorship program that provides emotional support to those in need. Their vision is to ensure that all minorities and under-served communities have equal access across the continuum of care.

We had an incredible time planning this event and we cannot wait to work with the Lotus Survival Foundation again in raising money! If you would like to donate to the Lotus Survival Foundation or see how you can help out please follow this link - www.lotussurvivalfoundation.org/

Welcome Laura to the Viva team!!!

Hey everybody! I am Laura and I am most recent intern at Viva L’Event in North Carolina! As you can tell, I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity and I cannot wait to start.

Right now I am finishing my home stretch at North Carolina State University and I will be graduating (finally) on May 12. I am graduating with a B.S. in Textiles Fashion Brand Management and Marketing.  About half way into college I decided I liked Textiles, but it was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Over the last two years, my world has been crazy. The craziness of it finally made me realize my passion for the wedding industry and here I am at Viva L’Event! The Viva L’Event girls are great and I know I can learn so much for them.

As of now, I am a Facility Manager at North Carolina State University’s University Recreation. The best part of my job is the people and building relationships with them.  I am excited to meet and build relationships with the Viva L’Event clients. Events mark some of the most memorable moments in people’s lives.  Being a part of the team who transforms events will be an amazing journey for me and will teach me so much, I can’t wait!

Cute Simple Do It Yourself Centerpieces & Wedding Favors!

Mini Bouquet Centerpieces:

A great idea that is popular this year is the idea of combing your centerpieces by also making them a great wedding favor for your guests to take home! The flowers featured are mums, chamomile, and lady's mantle; but of course you can easily switch out the types of flowers to fit your color scheme!  The flowers are placed together in small plastic floral tubes filled with water and then placed in a large pretty round vase.  It's a great do it yourself project too!

Mini Potted Plant with Message:

Super simple low budget project that is also a great way to get friends and family involved in prepping for the wedding!  Just buy some small pots and fill the container with potting soil, then place the single plant in the pot and make sure you water it a few times a day.  At the end just add a cute personal message or saying that represents you and your future hubby!

Monogramed Vases:

Easy homemade vases that add a little personal touch to the floral centerpiece!  Just take a small clear glass vase and then glue different colored ribbon, or whichever color best matches the color theme of your wedding around the vase.  Then at the end cut and paste a monogramed letter in the middle and there you have it.  You could also place a candle or anything else that you prefer more into it and may also use this as a table number reference for your guests!

Viva's Newest Intern!

Hey Yall! My name is Kristin, and I am the newest intern for Viva L'Event. I am so excited to join such a great event planning team!

I just graduated from High Point University this past May with a B.S. degree in Interior Design.  I love doing both commercial and residential design.  Finding the big “dream job” has been extremely difficult, so I moved back home to Suffolk, Virginia, after graduation.

I know that I did not receive a degree in event planning; however, it has always been a true desire of mine.  I love anything that deals with creating, designing and weddings/events; therefore, combining them is perfect!  I can’t wait to see what this experience will teach me.  During my four years of college, I have learned the true meaning of hard work and dedication.  I definitely enjoy a challenge and know what it takes to get the job done.

am currently a design associate for Pottery Barn and am also a nanny for a family of three children.  I love the hustle and bustle and trying to keep myself busy.  I am so fortunate to have been given such a great and exciting opportunity to work with a great event planning company and can’t wait to get started!

Pinterest! Our brides love it!

Who doesn't love Pinterest?!  If you haven't joined on you MUST!  It's amazing to be able to share isn't it "sharing is caring".

As most people are we are visual.  To visually show our clients the ideas instead of just to talk about them which is part of something special we offer to our clients.

Pinterest is not only amazing from a business point of view but also from our clients.  They love to be able to pin something they love show it to us as their Event Designer and be able to carry that out for their wedding.

Our clients usually have their own Wedding Pin Board that they are able to pin designs they love along the planning process.  Then while we can follow them and be able to see what they are selecting.  This allows us to see more into their looks, style and theme they are going for on their big day and tailor it down for them and have a focus for them.

With our clients also being able to follow our boards they can keep up on new and fun ideas and trends we have selected as well and add to their boards.  We then can incorporate what they love and pinned and create a new and exciting idea from the selected photos that is specific for the client on their wedding day.

We just LOVE Pinterest!

Rehearsal Dinner Ideas

One word that is extremely important in events especially weddings is details.  Details can include organization, décor, theme, punctuality, and so much more.  Couples often spend so much time thinking about the details of their wedding, that they forget the night before—The Rehearsal Dinner.

The Rehearsal Dinner is a great pre-wedding festivity that should be capitalized on.  It is an opportunity to add some fun and creativity while taking a much needed breath of fresh air before the big day.  I put together some great ideas that might be interesting to anyone wishing to put a little extra “umph” into their Rehearsal Dinner.

BBQ/Picnic

Who doesn’t love an old-fashioned gathering with the red checkered linens, the smell of a grill, and eating good home-style food?!  Have your grandmother cook her famous chili or prepare your favorite strawberry shortcake recipe as a simple dessert.  Play some fun games like horse shoes, bad mitten, or toss a Frisbee.  Encourage everyone to dress casually and maybe pull out an old flannel shirt or some overalls of your own.

Bowling

Personally, I am one who favors the old Grease movies where the T-Birds and Pink Ladies spent their nights out at the bowling alley having a great time.  Reserve a bowling alley to play a few games with your wedding party, friends, and family.  Decorate your areas in a 1950s theme and to finish it off, wear a poodle skirt and serve root beer floats.  Don’t bowl much?  Instead of the bowling alley, make reservations at an old diner with a jukebox and some great burgers.

Vegas!

If you couldn’t afford to splurge on the bachelor/bachelorette party experience in Vegas, then bring some of the Las Vegas to your dinner!  Host a casino night with card games, bingo, and other games.  Add a personal touch by ordering decks of cards with your wedding date on the back, and serve a signature cocktail with the ice cubes that look like dice.  Your guests will be feeling lucky to have come to such a fun night!

Baseball

Since my fiancé Eric is a baseball coach and fanatic, I felt it was necessary to blend my love of events and his “love of the game” to create a “Field of Dreams” Rehearsal Dinner.  (Insert Kevin Costner montage here)  I have considered renting a designated area at our local Durham Bulls Stadium to have our dinner at.  What a cute way to include your fiancé’s favorite sport without having to hand out baseball wedding favors at your reception since they really weren’t cohesive in your grand theme anyway.  Dress up the tables at the ballpark with baseball centerpieces, serve cracker jacks and hot dogs (Ball Park Franks of course) and have a great night enjoying our country’s favorite pastime.

Southwestern

I saw somewhere that a bride-to-be had in-laws from Texas.  To involve their southern culture, the Rehearsal Dinner was a Fiesta.  On the menu were all kinds of Mexican food from chips and salsa, to tacos, to Texas size Margaritas!  Personalize the event with a unique piñata, decorate with bright colors, and put on a pair of cowboy boots with your dress.  Be sure if it’s outdoors, to bring some tiki torches and insect repellent.  No one wants to be covered in mosquito bites for their big day!

Dave & Busters

After watching Kendra Wilkinson marry Hank Baskett on their E! Wedding Special, I was in love with their Rehearsal Dinner!  They chose Dave & Buster’s for their location.  It is a bar, restaurant, arcade, and more.  For people who like to play ski-ball, air hockey, and any other arcade game while enjoying some awesome food, this is the place for you.  The guests will have a good time kicking back for a relaxing night of fun and taking everyone’s mind off any wedding-stressors.  An idea to personalize the experience is to set up a trivia game to answer questions about the couple or give out cute favors as prizes that your guests can redeem their winning tickets for.  You could even utilize their photo booth for a personal touch.

These are just 6 amazing ideas for Rehearsal Dinners.  Be on the lookout for more here in the future.  As far as your Rehearsal Dinner, the sky is the limit!  Take an idea, make it yours, and have a great time!  The memories will be worth it.  Good luck, and be sure to send us any ideas or pictures you have from awesome Rehearsal Dinners.

Mr and Mrs Neri

Aimee and Ansell are an amazing couple that we had the pleasure of planning their gorgeous wedding for them! They are so madly in love!

Aimee and Ansell were one of the most fun couples we could have asked for. And when we met with them for the first time, we realized how much we had in common. It was kind of crazy and meant to be.

Their planning process went so smooth right up until the end when there was a last minute hiccup the couple had to deal with and we were here to help them.  When all was said and done it was the wedding of their dreams and they had the best time. Aimee the wonderful dancer that she is who even choreographed a dance for all of her bridal party. It was GREAT! Every one of their guests loved it
.

Now us girls know how important shoes are not just everyday but on your wedding day they have to be AWESOME. Aren't these shoes AMAZING?! And how beautiful is our bride Aimee?

The two were married at Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Raleigh this past November with 100 of their close family and friends. They had a Catholic ceremony to honor his Filipino heritage with all the traditions of the veil, cord and coins. It was a beautiful ceremony.

Their reception took place at the beautiful Grand Marquise Ballroom. Premiere Catering provided the wonderful tasty food with amazing service as always and the amazingly beautiful flowers and centerpieces were done by Fresh Affairs and complimented CE Rentals linens and dinnerware. We love the extra wide and long head table! The party was going all night with Randy Bennett from Joe Bunn DJ Company!

And we can't forget about the incredibly yummy cake from the fabulous Swank Cakes!

We loved this wedding, and this amazing couple. They were such a great way to end our 2011 year!

Goodbye 2011 and HELLO 2012

Well where has this year gone? We can't believe that it came and went like THAT( insert finger snap here)! And what a year it has been!

So much has been accomplished this year with some great clients and families have been welcomed into our Viva family. We are so connected with our clients and their families that it sometimes is sad to see their event day come and go. It means we won't be in contact with them everyday! We mean it when we say you become part of our family! Let's just say we have multiple moms, sisters, dads, cousins, grandparents, etc. And we welcome new ones every week.

How can we forget this year of weddings! We had some beautiful ones that will never be forgotten and unique and beautiful in their own way. We can't wait to get the photos back from some of the weddings we haven't posted yet and we seem to always end up with BEAUTIFUL brides. We aren't biased or anything! We event had one of our weddings on Style Me Pretty!

With our passion for design and attention to detail we love what we do!
     .

From traveling all over, bed & breakfast's, confetti cannons, smore stations, torrential downpours, budget changes, lots of purple (THE color of the 2011 and 2012) and EXPANDING to other states (specifically in Illinois and Virginia with travel anywhere) we think of ourselves as lucky. VERY LUCKY!

We were able to be a part of a wonderful charity event as well for the Lotus Survival Foundation at Solas in October.  It is a wonderful cause!

We had wonderful interns, Amanda and Katie, this year as well and loved being able to teach them and give an inside look at the Event Planning & Design business.

And of course the  BIGGEST worldwide wedding of the year ( not the 10 second marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphris)! WILLIAM AND KATE! Who can forget and yes we woke up early to watch every bit of it! It was beautiful.

To the new and old vendor friends, we are just as grateful for you. Our weddings and events could NOT have been  as amazing as they were without you!  We have met so many new vendor friends and rekindled relationships with old ones. We hope that 2012 will be an amazing year for all of you and we cannot wait to work with you again!

And of course JAMIE is getting married in 2012! We will continue to keep you updated through the blog! SO EXCITED FOR HER BIG DAY!  So stay on the look out!

“With every experience in life there is a lesson learned” – Oprah.  So true. We have learned a lot over this past year and 2011 comes to an end we reflect back on the good and all the lessons we have learned.  We cannot wait to have many more experiences and lessons learned in 2012! We wish you all the best and HAPPIEST NEW YEAR in 2012!

WE THANK ALL FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT and we are ready for 2012!
